Create an SMS link with a ready message
The phone's messaging app opens with your number as recipient and the text already typed. The person only taps send.

Link destination
Fill in the fields to see the link.
On a phone, it opens the messages app with the text ready. On a computer, it shows the number and a QR code.
How it works
- Enter the number that will receive messages. With the country code, such as +1 (415) 555-0132. It must be able to receive texts; most landlines can't.
- Write the suggested message. Short and to the point: "I'd like to confirm my appointment" or "Send me this week's menu".
- Create and test. You get the short link and QR code. Behind them is
sms:+14155550132with the text filled in.
When SMS is the right channel
US and Canadian customers
In North America many people never install WhatsApp. "Text us" is how local businesses get messages, and a link that opens Messages with the right text gets more replies than a number to copy.
Confirmations and quick replies
Clinics, salons and repair shops that confirm bookings by text can put the link in the reminder: "Reply YES" becomes one tap.
Keyword campaigns
"Text DEAL to get the offer" works better when the link opens the message with DEAL already typed. Fewer typos, more replies.
Print in public places
Posters at bus stops, apartment buildings and events. The QR code opens the text ready to send, with no Wi-Fi needed.
Frequently asked questions
Who pays for the message?
The sender pays whatever their carrier plan charges; most US and UK mobile plans include unlimited texts. You pay nothing to receive it.
Does the pre-written message work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. iPhone Messages and the main Android messaging apps fill in the text. Some third-party apps ignore the text and only open a chat with the number.
What happens if the link is opened on a computer?
Computers can't send SMS. We show a page with the number, the suggested message and a QR code so the person can continue on their phone. On a Mac signed in to iMessage, the Messages app may open directly.
Can I text the same message to many numbers?
No. An SMS link opens a conversation with one recipient. Bulk texting needs an SMS marketing platform and recipients' consent, which US rules such as the TCPA require.
Why SMS if most people use WhatsApp?
In the US and Canada, texting is still the default way to message a business, and it works without data or an extra app. Elsewhere it is a good second option next to a WhatsApp link.
Good practice
- Keep the message under 160 characters. Longer texts are split into parts and some plans count each part.
- Mind special characters in long texts. Emoji and some accented letters switch the encoding and the limit drops to 70 characters per part.
- Reply on the same channel. Someone who texted expects a text back, not a call.
- Offer WhatsApp too if you serve international customers. Two links side by side let people choose.
